Ashley Perkinson Presents Social Enterprise Courses for Duke Nonprofit Management Program
RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 15, 2011) – Ashley Matlock Perkinson, attorney-at-law and principal of Perkinson Law Firm is teaming up with Naomi Takeuchi, founder and president of 1000 Cranes Business Consulting, to present Social Enterprise 101 and 201. The first workshops were offered today in partnership with the Social Enterprise Network of the Triangle and the Duke Nonprofit Management Program.
The workshops include an overview of social enterprise as a potential alternative to traditional nonprofit fundraising strategies. Case studies are highlighted, and a panel presentation of local social enterprise practitioners share experiences and insights. “We teach participants how to identify and evaluate strengths through an organizational audit and how to translate these strengths into social enterprise opportunities,” said Perkinson. “It is the perfect balance of information for an introduction to the social enterprise approach.”
Attorney Perkinson represents various statewide clients and provides services in the areas of nonprofit consulting, media law, education law, lobbying and government relations. She is a dedicated advocate for the arts, children and social enterprise. Perkinson has completed the Duke University Nonprofit Management Certificate program and is frequently recruited as an expert speaker on nonprofit law.
Perkinson serves on the North Carolina Symphony Society Board of Trustees and is an active member of the North Carolina Symphony Players Society. She also serves on the Government Affairs Board for the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and the board of Community Workforce Solutions. Perkinson is president of the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Wake County and has held various volunteer leadership roles in the Junior League of Raleigh.
As an active member of the legal community, Perkinson is a board member and former secretary of the Wake County Bar Association and 10th Judicial District Bar. She is also the legislative chair of the NC Constitutional Rights and Responsibilities Section Council which focuses on First Amendment issues.
Perkinson has practiced as an attorney for 10 years. Her legal experience includes work at Everett, Gaskins, Hancock & Stevens, LLP in Raleigh and Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP in Winston-Salem. She received her juris doctorate from the School of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she also earned her bachelor of arts from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
